Pearl Abyss Dazzles at SIGGRAPH 2019

Seoul, South Korea—August 2, 2019—Two of Pearl Abyss’s lead engine programmers today presented on next-generation game engine technology at SIGGRAPH 2019, the world's largest computer graphics conference. Titled “Practical Dynamic Lighting for Large-Scale Game Environments”, their presentation gave a deep dive into the science and techniques driving the development of Pearl Abyss’ upcoming games.

Each presenter focused on a different topic of interest for an audience of global developers. Kwanghyeon Go presented about "Direct Lighting and Unified Atmospheric Scattering" and detailed light processing techniques for the sky, clouds, atmosphere and scattered natural light. The second presenter, Kyungjoon Cho, focused on “Indirect Lighting” and outlined an effective method of calculating light reflection and shielding using light-tracking based on voxels.

"Pearl Abyss is one of the few global game development studios that develops its own game engine, and has participated in SIGGRAPH, which is recognized as one of the most prestigious computer graphics conferences in the world," said Robin Jung, CEO of Pearl Abyss. "We will challenge new possibilities and innovations in the global game market by sharing our know-how and experiences in game development." 

Participating in SIGGRAPH marks a continuation of Pearl Abyss’ attendance at global game conferences and its goal to share its development of the latest, state-of-the-art technology. Its developers have previously presented on various topics in the Game Developers Conference (GDC), the world's largest conference of game developers, since 2018.
